Sending Our Love to Uganda

This month for our family service project, we decided to send some love to our kids in Uganda.  In our family, turning three is a big deal for a special reason.  You are old enough to adopt!  Just after Isabel turned three years old I attended a Women of Faith Conference and heard Steven Curtis Chapman speak about orphans and adoption.  He gave a plug for World Vision, which is an amazing world wide Christian relief ogranization.  They offer people like us who live in such an abundant society the opportunity to give to those who have so little.  Through their child sponsorship program, we are able provide children on the other side of the world with basic things we take for granted like clean water, food, medical care, and an education.    Best of all, these children learn the truth about Jesus and how He loves them.
So, almost 7 years ago Isabel adopted a little girl named Gloria who lives in Uganda.  When Maya turned three, she adopted Jovia.  Lucy adopted Livian.  And just a few months ago, Edison adopted Marvin.  We pray for all of these kids every night and know that God is using our family to be a blessing to these families.
The things we send to the kids have to fit into a flat 9X6 envelope, so it takes some creativity to make a care package.  At the store, the kids picked bandanas, notepads, pencils, stickers, & bracelets.  They each drew pictures and wrote letters to their kid.  We also included some photos of our family.

The kids had fun picking things they could send.

Lucy and Edison were very excited to pack up their envelopes.

Working Weekend

We can now cross backsplash off our spring break list!  Greg did a great job on his first tile project.

We've also been busy rearranging kids in bedrooms and now redoing bedrooms.  Maya now has her own room, which she is so excited about.  For her birthday we are doing lots of painting and decorating of her new room.  She picked some bright colors!  We'll post some finished pictures on Saturday when we do the big reveal!

Maya picked our some cute fabric for pillows.

Totally unrelated, but too cute!  Clay and Isabel hanging out.

Bike Tricks

by Maya & Isabel

We've been working on some new tricks on our bikes. We got the idea of bike tricks from the movie Hoot. In the movie ,there is a girl and a boy. The boy rides on the handle bars of the bike while the girl pedals. After watching the movie, we took Lucy's bike and tried it out.Once we got good at that trick, we started more tricks. Eventually we started using Maya's bike, which is shown in the pictures.

Spring Break 2012

The Great Staycation
This week we all enjoyed some family time while Greg was on Spring Break.  Originally, we planned to head to DC, but then we realized the reality of our lives!  We have a hard time getting it together at home... we aren't quite ready to travel.  It's been a tough few weeks around here with two weeks of stomach bugs followed by allergies and colds.
Last Friday night we all sat down and made a list of things we wanted to do for our staycation.
THE LIST
1. Eat at Vinnie's (our favorite pizza place)
2. Watch a movie at home
3. Camp in the backyard
4. Family game night
5. Go see The Lorax
6. Try the new Mexican restaurant
7. Go to a park
8. Go on a bike ride
9. Have a Lego building party
10. Plant the garden
11. Tile the kitchen backsplash
12. Clean the cars
13. Edventure Museum
14. Go to Midnight Star Pottery
15. Fondue
Just 4 things left on our list!  Luckily, I have Spring Break in two weeks, so we can always have Staycation Part 2.
Everyone got to choose one thing to plant in the garden.
We hope it grows!

We enjoyed a fancy fondue dinner.

St. Patrick's Day is BIG around here.
Lucy had a bike parade at her school on Thursday.
We spent an afternoon at Forsyth Park picnicing & playing.

Clay loved the swing!
Brave Edison!

Clay was mesmerized by the green fountain!

Greg and the kids camped in the backyard.

Friday we spent the day at Edventure, a Children's Museum in South Carolina.
